El Medano is situated in the south of Tenerife, close to the Tenerife South Airport. It is one of the most touristic cities in that area. El Medano or the windy city as we could call it, is the most popular destination for kitesurfers and windsurfers. Why? Well as you can see above it is always windy in medano, we could say roughly 300days of windy days a year which is more then perfect for those who are looking for active vacaciones. The wind is side shore meaning it can not be safer for the kitesurfers, especially the beginners. Meaning you cannot drift out to the open sea and in case you loose your board you will find it on the shore as the waves will bring it for you. There are some rocks at the end of the beach so if you do have some troubles there are lifeguards for the rescue. And what is more, the reacue is free.
El Medano beach is sandy, that is why if you want to learn how to surf, this is a perfect spot to learn. All the areas are separated by the yellow bans. You have the swimming area, surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing area. Something for everyone.
The city doesn’t just offer a variety of aquatic sports, you will find cafés and restaurants each step of the way. On the weekends they even have a market where you can find all sorts of things, from clothes, accessories to food. It’s a full experience.
When you take a walk by the beach from the city center, passing the sign el medano, you will find next to the supermarket the Kitesurf313 school which are known for their hospitality, experienced instructors and a great view of the beach. They have a variety of different instructors from all over the world with years of experiences in many different areas: wingfoil, kitesurf, surf and windsurf. They don’t just offer classes they rent the material as well. New surf boards, new kitesurfing equipment as they know thay quality matters. Any doubts or questions they will gladly help you out!
